Brave Bull Sacred
Ohiitika Bloca Wakan — Brave Bull Sacred
I was given the task of helping a man who had the spirit of a young girl attached to his light body.
He told me she wouldn’t let him sleep. She bothered him throughout the night and caused him to have thoughts that did not feel like his own. Whatever was happening was creating a block to his own divine light.
Before doing this kind of work on anyone, I have been taught to first make an assessment. I need to make sure that what the person is telling me matches what I am able to pick up spiritually.
During our appointment, I saw the poor girl trapped within his light body. She appeared to be bound by a rope of braided hair.
To me, that could mean only one thing: something else had created this.
As I looked deeper and tuned into the young woman’s energy, I could feel her crying. She was trapped inside this braided hair, which formed something almost like a ring of Saturn around the man’s light body.
I was in awe of what I was seeing, but I also knew this could not wait for a second call.
I can see it. Let’s help this girl escape and remove this curse.
Yet part of me knew we needed more protection. I needed someone who understood the removal of this kind of spiritual attack.
So I began to pray and sing.
As I sang, I was taken spiritually to our sacred tree in the arbor in South Dakota—a place where I had danced and spiritually traveled during ceremony.
During those dances, I had been able to move in my spirit body and see the old ones who were there with us. It wasn’t something I consciously chose to do. It seemed to come from a part of me already familiar with this kind of ceremony and spiritual journeying.
Over time, I relearned these journeys and met some amazing spirits along the way.
Now, as I continued singing, I found myself once again standing before the sacred Tree of Life.
The tree stood within brilliant white light, prayer bundles still tied to its branches.
It was beautiful.
Then a man walked out from behind the tree.
He wore a buffalo headdress. One side of his face was painted black with white dots, while the other was painted white with black dots.
As he stood before me, I could smell cedar burning around him.
He introduced himself as Ohiitika Bloca Wakan—Brave Bull Sacred.
Ohiitika: Oh-Hee-Tee-Ka.
He was a Heyoka Medicine Man in spirit form.
There was something about his eyes. Without needing many words, he communicated that he walked between worlds and removed darkness in order to restore balance.
His presence felt familiar to me.
I have prayed and danced with Heyokas through many of my years in Sundance. I have witnessed the extraordinary energy they bring to ceremony. I once watched a Heyoka split a tornado in two during a storm at one of my dances. It remains one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed.
Heyokas have always felt like family to me.
They dance with lightning.
They bring joy to ceremony.
And when they are present, everything feels electrical.
Now one of them was standing before me.
Ohiitika told me that he knew how to help the man and the young spirit attached to him.
As he spoke, I could feel my song becoming stronger and more confident.
Something inside me knew:
He is here to help.
Ohiitika looked at me.
“Let me see what is happening.”
Suddenly, the situation became illuminated before us. There, within what I was seeing, appeared a dark witch with red eyes.
Ohiitika looked at me and smiled.
“Watch this!”
He clapped his hands together.
Immediately, the dark figure was pulled away, almost as though an invisible lasso had caught it and ripped it from the scene.
Then the smell of cedar came again.
I opened my eyes and began burning cedar while continuing to sing. The smoke helped me concentrate on the work before us.
Then Ohiitika acted again.
He clapped his hands.
The braid of hair exploded into smoke.
The young woman—who appeared to me to be no more than twenty years old—was free.
And someone was waiting for her.
Mother Mary.
The young woman saw Mother Mary and flew toward her.
It was beautiful to witness.
The man I was working with was visibly sweating while all of this was happening. Yet somewhere deep in my heart, I began to understand something.
Perhaps I had been brought into this situation as much for the young woman’s spirit as for the man who could not sleep.
She needed someone to see her.
She needed someone to recognize that she was trapped.
And she needed help becoming free.
But I received something that day as well.
I met Ohiitika Bloca Wakan.
Brave Bull Sacred.
He came from behind the sacred tree surrounded by the scent of cedar, carrying the energy of the Heyoka and that familiar feeling of lightning in the air.
He came when I knew I needed help.
And he stayed.
From that moment forward, Ohiitika has remained with me, alongside a small number of spirit helpers whom I trust with this kind of work.
When the work was finished, I completed my song.
I thanked the spirits who had helped.
And I thanked the one who had stepped out from behind the sacred tree when I needed him.
Ohiitika Bloca Wakan.
Brave Bull Sacred.
My spirit helper.
Some spirits arrive quietly.
Others arrive like lightning.
Ohiitika came with cedar, laughter in his strength, and the sacred power to restore balance.
And I know his presence now.
